Lectionary Week
March 2–8, 2026
Scripture Overview

The overarching theme of this week’s lectionary reflection is trusting in God. The passages from Exodus and Psalms narrate the troubles of the Israelites in the desert, inviting us to reflect upon the realities of trusting in God in the midst of life’s difficulties. The reading in Romans continues the theme of trust whereby we are invited to trust or boast only in what God has done for us on the Cross. Finally, the reading in John depicts the Samaritan woman as an exemplary figure of faith who believed in Jesus as the Messiah. She didn’t require miracles to have faith; she found the miracle and her faith in her encounter with Jesus.

Questions and Suggestions for Reflection

Read Exodus 17:1-7. When has God’s provision sustained you through tough stages of your spiritual journey?
Read Psalm 95. What object, image, or memory serves for you as a symbol of God’s faithfulness?
Read Romans 5:1-11. How have you discovered God’s grace in your life when life’s troubles seem to overwhelm you?
Read John 4:5-42. When has letting go of your expectations or rules allowed God to work freely in your life or in the lives of others around you?

Respond by posting a prayer.

Romans 5:1-5

We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, 4 endurance produces character, and character produces hope. 5 This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

With so many atrocities happening in our world right now, praying for peace is not just a perfunctory action anymore. We desperately want peace in our divided, contentious world. Romans 5:1-5 is a great passage to reflect upon when it comes to hoping for peace in this world. Paul declares...
