Lectionary Week
March 2–8, 2026
Scripture Overview

The overarching theme of this week’s lectionary reflection is trusting in God. The passages from Exodus and Psalms narrate the troubles of the Israelites in the desert, inviting us to reflect upon the realities of trusting in God in the midst of life’s difficulties. The reading in Romans continues the theme of trust whereby we are invited to trust or boast only in what God has done for us on the Cross. Finally, the reading in John depicts the Samaritan woman as an exemplary figure of faith who believed in Jesus as the Messiah. She didn’t require miracles to have faith; she found the miracle and her faith in her encounter with Jesus.

Questions and Suggestions for Reflection

Read Exodus 17:1-7. When has God’s provision sustained you through tough stages of your spiritual journey?
Read Psalm 95. What object, image, or memory serves for you as a symbol of God’s faithfulness?
Read Romans 5:1-11. How have you discovered God’s grace in your life when life’s troubles seem to overwhelm you?
Read John 4:5-42. When has letting go of your expectations or rules allowed God to work freely in your life or in the lives of others around you?

Respond by posting a prayer.

Psalm 95:1-7

1 Come, let’s sing out loud to the LORD! Let’s raise a joyful shout to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let’s come before him with thanks! Let’s shout songs of joy to him! 3 The LORD is a great God, the great king over all other gods. 4 The earth’s depths are in his hands; the mountain heights belong to him; 5 the sea, which he made, is his along with the dry ground, which his own hands formed. 6 Come, let’s worship and bow down! Let’s kneel before the LORD, our maker! 7 He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the sheep in his hands. If only you would listen to his voice right now!

I love reading biblical passages that speak about how God is directly involved in the creation of our beautiful world. Inasmuch as that sounds simplistic, to speak of God’s direct involvement theologically implies that we see God’s presence, imprints, and other expressions of divine manifestation in nature. Since the trees...

Merciful God, we seek you, our Lord and Shepherd. We pray for all of our brothers and sisters who are struggling right now. May your loving arms protect and guide them. Amen.
